Year 2
🌟 Welcome to Year 2! 🌟
Welcome to an exciting year in Year 2! This year is all about growing in independence, building confidence, and exploring the world through creative and hands-on learning. We have lots of engaging topics, fun trips, and meaningful experiences planned to make this a memorable year for our children.
📚 English in Year 2
Our English curriculum is packed with imaginative and inspiring texts that help develop children’s reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. We’ll dive into a variety of stories that spark curiosity and creativity:
-
The Gingerbread Man – A traditional tale that helps us explore story structure and character description.
-
Toby and the Great Fire of London – A historical fiction story that links with our history topic, helping us write recounts and diaries.
-
Jack and the Beanstalk – A classic fairy tale where we’ll work on story innovation and descriptive language.
-
Jack and the Jellybeanstalk – A modern twist on the classic tale, encouraging us to compare texts and create our own imaginative versions.
Children will also build grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills throughout the year and enjoy regular opportunities for reading for pleasure and guided reading.
✝️ RE – Our Bible Story
This term, our focus Bible story is David and Goliath. Through this story, we’ll explore the theme of courage and trust, learning that:
God can protect us and is always on our side, even when we face big challenges.
This story is woven into our values and discussions across the curriculum, helping children grow in faith and resilience.
